The Honest Comparison
We used to sell both. Then in 2018 we dropped Nobilia and became Schüller-exclusive. This is why — from a Milton Keynes showroom that's fitted hundreds of each.
Our Story
KitchenSmart has been fitting German kitchens in Milton Keynes since 2010. For nearly a decade we sold both Nobilia and Schüller — two of the biggest German manufacturers, both Made-in-Germany, both with proper reputations.
By 2018 we made the decision to drop Nobilia entirely and become a Schüller-exclusive showroom. This page explains why — honestly and specifically — so you can make an informed choice for your kitchen.
Nobilia is a fine kitchen for the right customer. But after fitting hundreds of both, we found Schüller consistently delivered a better result for the way our customers actually use their kitchens. Here's what tipped the balance.

Option A
Germany's biggest volume manufacturer. ~750,000 kitchens a year. Solid engineering at a value price point.
Option B
The premium German specialist. ~130,000 kitchens a year, built for buyers who want the kitchen to last 20 years, not 10.
The Turning Point
Nobilia's drawer boxes are fine on day one. By year 6–7 we saw the same issue — sagging fronts on wide pots-and-pans drawers. Schüller uses Blum Legrabox on every kitchen, guaranteed for life. We stopped having drawer callbacks the year we switched.
Nobilia uses standard ABS edge tape. In centrally-heated UK homes we saw lifting within 5–8 years — especially near ovens and dishwashers. Schüller laser-edges every door — the edge is fused, no adhesive. Ten years in, they still look factory-fresh.
Nobilia carcasses are 16mm. Schüller are 19mm. That 3mm sounds trivial until you fit a stone worktop and expect it to hold that weight for 20 years. On large islands and long runs, Nobilia showed deflection by year 8. Schüller doesn't.
Nobilia's cabinets come in fixed 15cm increments. Your 3.42m wall gets filler panels. Schüller offers 1cm-increment cabinet widths and bespoke depth adjustments as standard. Every wall fits exactly. No fillers. It's the difference between off-the-peg and built-for-the-room.
Both brands offer 5-year warranties. But Schüller specifically guarantees the door film against peeling, discolouration and moisture damage for 25 years. Nobilia doesn't. If you're spending £20k on a kitchen you plan to keep for two decades, that gap matters.

The Bit Customers Never See
Most comparisons focus on doors and drawers. But the biggest reason we prefer Schüller — one you'd never know as a customer — is how the two factories treat their dealers. This directly affects your install day.
Schüller pack every kitchen at the factory to your exact plan, with a full parts manifest checked twice. Our "missing item" rate on Schüller: essentially zero.
Cabinets, doors, hardware, accessories — one coordinated shipment. Nobilia splits across two or three deliveries, which phases your install.
Every door individually wrapped, corner guards on cabinets, cartons twice the wall-thickness of Nobilia's. Fewer chips, fewer reorders.
Dedicated UK team, hour-response technical line. Anything needed mid-install gets sorted the same day.

Legrabox drawers, Blumotion hinges, Servo-Drive on every kitchen — even entry-level ranges.
No adhesive edges to lift. Twelve years in a family kitchen — factory-fresh.
True push-to-open with servo-drive. Not the J-pull compromise most brands sell.
Cabinets sized to your walls. Bespoke depth and height as standard, not upcharges.
Real matt, real gloss, veneer, lacquer, exclusive Glasline glass fronts.
One factory, one country, one quality standard. Not "designed in Germany".
Entry-level Fino uses the same Blum hardware and 19mm carcasses as premium Vienna.
Soft-close, LED plinth lighting, cutlery inserts — all standard. Nobilia charges extra.
Customers on year 14 with kitchens that still look great. Not a metaphor.
Estate agents estimate £8k–£15k added to a mid-market Milton Keynes house.
PEFC boards, water-based lacquers, carbon-neutral factory since 2020. Audited annually.
Fine-grain sizing, integrated appliances, colour matching. Nobilia's system won't allow half of it.
Free design consultation. No pressure, no time limit.

"We chose KitchenSmart because they were honest. They actually talked us OUT of a spec we'd chosen — said it wouldn't last. Twelve years on and the Schüller still looks like it was fitted last month. Best money we've spent on the house."

The Verdict
Two ranges, one uncompromising German engineer. Both use Blum hardware, 19mm carcasses and laser-edged doors. Pick your price — never your quality.
Our take, plainly
There isn't a budget where Nobilia beats Schüller. At the value end, Schüller Fino gives you the same Blum hardware, the same 19mm carcass and the same laser-edged doors — for roughly what an equivalent Nobilia costs. At the premium end, Schüller Vienna outclasses anything Nobilia builds. After fitting hundreds of both, we don't hedge on this any more — if you're buying a German kitchen in Milton Keynes, buy Schüller. Come see the difference for yourself.
