Häcker vs Schüller Kitchens: An Honest Comparison

Häcker vs Schüller Kitchens: An Honest Comparison

Both are German, both are family-run and both carry the Golden M quality mark. So when you’re weighing up Häcker vs Schüller, the spec sheets won’t pick a winner for you. The differences are smaller than the showrooms make out, and they’re not always where you’d expect.

We should be upfront: KitchenSMART sells and fits Schüller kitchens, not Häcker (often spelt Hacker in the UK). We’ve done the same with our Nobilia vs Schüller comparison. Here’s the honest version, including where Häcker does better.

01.  Häcker vs Schüller: who they are

Häcker started as a joinery workshop in 1898 and has made fitted kitchens since 1965. It’s based in Rödinghausen in north-west Germany, run by the Finkemeier family, and exports to more than 60 countries. Its two ranges are concept130, the more affordable line, and systemat, the premium line.

Schüller was founded in 1966 in Herrieden, Bavaria, and is still family-owned. It’s one of the largest kitchen makers in Germany, building around 170,000 kitchens a year, and it also owns the designer brand next125. You can read more in our guide to German kitchen manufacturers.

02.  Cabinets, planning and storage

This is where the two are closest. Häcker systemat and Schüller both plan on a 130mm grid, with carcase heights of 715mm, 780mm and 845mm. In practice, a good designer can lay out almost the same kitchen with either brand.

Every Schüller kitchen we fit has a 19mm carcase and soft-close on every door and drawer as standard, with clever internals like Le Mans corner units and lit larder pull-outs. When you’re comparing any two quotes, ask for the carcase spec, the hinge and runner brand, and what’s included in writing. Our premium vs standard kitchens guide covers what to check.

“Between two brands this close, the design and the fitting will make more difference than the badge on the door.”
– The KitchenSMART design team

03.  Häcker vs Schüller fronts: where each one wins

Where Häcker wins: the systemat line has some unusual fronts, including real wood, stone veneer and concrete. Häcker also says it can colour-match to more than 2,000 shades. If a very specific material or colour is what you’re after, it’s worth a look.

Where Schüller wins: range and value in the middle of the market. From glass-fronted SmartGlas and handleless Lineo to textured Matera and classic Newport Shaker, there’s a finish for most homes at most budgets. Browse the full Schüller range, or see finished jobs like Matera Lava Black and Newport Deep Blue.

On price, both sit in the mid to premium bracket. A supply-and-fit Schüller kitchen from us typically costs £15k-£45k, with most between £20k and £30k. See our Schüller cost guide for what moves the number.

04.  Seeing Schüller near Milton Keynes, Bedford and Northampton

Whichever brand you pick, you’re really choosing the retailer. That means who designs the kitchen, who fits it and who answers the phone if something needs sorting. We handle design, supply and installation with our own fitters, not subcontractors.

05.  Frequently Asked Questions

Are Häcker kitchens good quality?

Yes. Häcker is a well-established German manufacturer with the Golden M quality mark, and its systemat line is a genuine premium product. As with any brand, the quality you end up with depends just as much on the design and fitting.

Is Schüller better than Häcker?

Neither is better across the board. They plan on the same grid and sit in a similar price bracket. Häcker has some more unusual fronts, while Schüller offers a wide choice of finishes and strong value. Read Schüller kitchens explained for the full range breakdown.
